Case of enterocutaneous fistula due to nonfunctioning ventriculoperitoneal shunt

Abdominal complications of ventriculoperitoneal shunt are commonly reported but asymptomatic bowel perforation with enterocutaneous fistula is rare. Case presentation: This case describes a young male patient who underwent ventriculperitoneal shunt for hydrocephalus ten years back. He presented with enterocutaneous fistula due to the non functioning abdominal end of the shunt. Patient was managed with laparotomy with take down of fistula with bowel resection and anastomosis. Conclusion: Enterocutaneous fistula is a rare complication of ventriculoperitoneal shunt.
